our story
Our journey began in 2019 when we purchased The Stag after traveling the world together. We had explored California, South America, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia before returning to the UK with a dream of running our own business.
In the picturesque town of Dolgellau, we found the perfect spot—a beautiful pub that stole our hearts, even though it needed some tender loving care. Despite the challenges that followed, including the onset of Covid, our love for the place and our guests’ happiness has led to The Stag becoming a welcoming haven where everyone is treated like a friend from the moment they walk through the door. So if you’re looking for great food, drink, and friendly banter, then come and say hello!

At The Bar
We stock the best of everything Welsh, including Welsh cask ales (Purple Moose, Bluestone Brewing, Big Hand Brewing, Grey Trees, Conwy Brewery), Welsh Gins (Aber Falls, Dyfi Distillery, Blue Slate Gin, Mallows, Pant y Foel), Welsh rums (Bullion, Barti Spice, Devils Bridge, Anglesey Rum co.) Welsh Whiskies (Penderyn Gold Range), craft beers (Polly’s , Flowerhorn, Wild horse, Tiny Rebel, Crafty Devil, Geipel Brewing) soft drinks (Heartsease Farm), wine (Llaethliw, Montgomery).

At The Stag we are lucky to have a large enclosed beer garden featuring covered and heated areas, colourful flowers, and a view of our open pizza kitchen. It is an amazing place to hang out with friends whilst enjoying great food and drink, whatever the time of year!
The Beer Garden is conveniently located with direct access from the main Dolgellau car park.

Our pizzas are lovingly hand-crafted and baked in our state-of-the-art Italian oven. Each pizza boasts a thin, crispy crust complemented by homemade marinara sauce, delivering authentic Italian flavors in every bite. With a mix of local ingredients and genuine Italian fior di latte mozzarella, our pizzas really are the talk of the town!

Historical Building
Step inside The Stag, a beautiful, historic building erected in 1771 and now boasting a Grade 2 listing. Immerse yourself in the past as you discover original features like our broad fireplace and elegant beams, preserving the charm of a bygone era. Experience the allure of history mingling with the present as you explore The Stag’s unique ambiance.
Function Room
Our upstairs area, lovingly known as “The Doe Room,” can comfortably accommodate up to 40 people. Whether you’re looking to enjoy a quiet drink or host a private party, this versatile space can serve as the ideal Function Room for your needs. Dog Friendly
At The Stag, we take pride in excellent service for both you and your furry friends. Enjoy our special dog menu with treats and chews, along with cozy beds, soft towels, and water stations. We were finalists in The Best Pub for Dogs competition in 2021, proof of our pet-friendly dedication. Experience a wonderful time at The Stag with your beloved pets!

A really lovely, family and dog friendly pub. The staff are all lovely, and can’t do enough to make you feel welcome. Would definitely recommend to anyone who wants a gorgeous pizza or a drink! -

A lovely place with a lovely atmosphere. The bar man was friendly and knowledgeable. The pizzas were delicious. I would definitely recommend this place. -
lots of veggie options
A super cool and friendly pub with excellent beer selection. Really superb handmade pizza (with some funky toppings, and lots of veggie options too). Garlic bread is to die for (possibly from garlic butter clogged arteries). -
pizzas are phenomenal
Fantastic pub. Great service and the pizzas are phenomenal… Not what you would expect from a pub. Crispy thin base and quality toppings. I’ve eaten a lot of pizzas in my time but these definitely rank right up there with the best. I may have had a few of these while I’ve been in Dolgellau. -

As visitors to the area we felt so welcomed in the Stag Inn. The staff were really friendly, to people and dogs! The pizza was really excellent. Lovely thin base and delicious fresh toppings. You can also pick dipping sauce for the crusts, which were also very good. Highly recommended, do not miss if you are in the area! -

Sought refuge here on a rainy drive up to North Wales. Really welcoming staff, and very dog friendly. Fire was on and the front bar was comfortable and cozy. Pizza was a perfect lunch option, with a reassuringly homemade-shaped base! Diolch – drych mlaen at ddod nôl yn fuan!
